on seasonal foods

where i live, snow is still clearing up somehow. i really hate hot weather, but i'm glad all the ice cream places are opening again. one thing i learnt recently was that, apparently, it's strange to want to eat/drink cold things during winter? i wouldn't have ever guessed that was, like, a thing. i'll drink hot chocolate during the summer and ice cream during winter more often than their supposed, arbitrary consumption time (?)

during break, we visited the convenience store to get drinks one day. most times i don't buy anything—i'm usually content with being surrounded by friends to bother, that and i don't eat lunch—but today was a bit different. i remarked that i was a bit thirsty too, so i worked the slushy machine. when i glanced back at them, they were looking back at me like i was crazy and i thought that was kind of funny.

ever since getting my braces on, i've started to appreciate foods & drinks with extreme temperatures; hot noodles, ginger tea, popsicles, sorbet, etc. somehow, both make my mouth hurt less. sometimes i just chew on plain ice! i think i've shoved more ice cubes in my mouth than times i've seen my father. i don't think he takes my illness as seriously as he should.

on the topic of desserts, i'm oddly specific when it comes to my tastes (food in general as well, i'm such a picky eater it's almost laughable). i dislike carrots but like cake, do i like carrot cake? yes. i like both ice cream and cake, so do i like ice cream cake? no, not at all! nine times out of ten i won't eat a cake unless it's home-made, which is why i don't eat at birthday parties since most of them get made by somebody else. where's the logic?

there's also something about store-bought cakes that always make me nauseous when i eat them. it tastes like how rubber looks. nowadays i don't eat much cake at all, or much food in general. but when i was a child, we used to buy carrot cakes from this bakery and i'd eat the whole thing. it was out of town and in this kind of run down plaza, and i think it was next to a small laundromat/coin wash.
